About CAIC

Council of African Independent Churches

To undertake joint action and service on behalf of the Churches and to encourage cooperation among member Churches.

Constitution · 3.1.6 · p. 4

An invitation to belong, participate and make a difference. The African Independent Church movement has a remarkable history of faith, resilience, indigenous Christian leadership and service to communities across South Africa. Yet the challenges facing the Church today remind us of an important truth:

A fellowship of independent churches

The Council of African Independent Churches (CAIC) exists to provide a platform where independent churches can come together in fellowship, cooperation and common purpose. CAIC describes itself as a fellowship of independent churches that confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour according to Scripture, celebrating diversity while pursuing the common goal of glorifying God.

Your church does not lose its identity

CAIC does not seek to make member churches identical.
Your church retains its name and identity; leadership structure; local administration; worship traditions; ecclesiastical structures; ministry programmes; and institutional character.
Instead, CAIC provides a common table around which churches can sit together. Our strength is found not in becoming the same, but in discovering what we can accomplish together.

Advocacy

We seek to ensure that the voice and concerns of African Independent Churches are represented when matters affecting the Church and our communities are discussed.

Community Transformation

Our calling extends beyond the walls of the church. CAIC seeks to contribute towards social and moral development, community empowerment, job creation and other initiatives that respond to the needs of our people.
